Sicamous on Skaha Beach
The city of Penticton is located in the beautiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia and is nestled between Okanagan Lake to the north and Skaha Lake to the south.

The name Penticton, as translated by the Salish native Americans, means "A Place to Stay Forever", so named because the lakes, hills and surrounding area provided all that was needed for life in the early days.

Floating Down the Channel
Definitely a four seasons playground, Penticton boasts 2,000 hours of sunshine per year and its beaches and warm lakes make it a favourite destination for summer tourists to British Columbia.

Summer events include Penticton Square Dance Festival, Penticton Highland Games, Okanagan Children's Festival, Beach Blanket Film Festival and the Pentastic Jazz Festival to name but a few.

Penticton is well known for hosting the Ironman Canada Triatholon at the end of August each year and atheletes come from all over the world to participate in this event.
The Fall is a time for many festivals in Penticton, including the Okanagan Fest-of Ale and various wine festivals.

Apex Mountain Resort

Grapes on the Naramata Bench
The Okanagan Valley is fast becoming the Napa Valley of the north as more and more vineyards and wineries are springing up every year. Many of these wineries also have restaurants for people to enjoy wonderful food and wine with spectacular views of the valley and lakes.  Most wineries invite visitors for wine tastings and tours and the South Okanagan wine tour begins in Penticton.

Accommodations in Penticton range from motels and hotels to privately owned vacation homes. Many visitors to Penticton prefer renting a vacation home directly from an owner so they can have more room and are able to save money by cooking their own meals.  This is especially attractive for families who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford an Okanagan vacation. Penticton vacation rentals are very inviting to triathletes, because renting a home or condo with a kitchen gives them the freedom to prepare special meals for their diet before the race. Also rentals from owners for accommodations during Ironman are usually more quiet, and restful than the average hotel.
